    Motorcycling in Zeeland

Zeeland is a wonderful motorbike destination if you like the coast. The province is literally surrounded by the sea and has the most beautiful and sunniest beaches in the country thanks to its boulevards without high-rise buildings. But Zeeland offers motorcyclists much more. Beautiful cities like Middelburg and Goes, quiet roads, winding dyke roads and views that never bore. Zeeland also offers excellent food, especially if you like fish. A motorcycle trip through Zeeland is a real mini holiday.

    Delta Works by motorcycle

After the North Sea flood of 1953, the government decided to construct the Delta Works. The inlets of Zeeland were closed off, giving the province a shorter coastline. The Oosterschelde barrier is the most impressive of the Delta Works, with a length of 3 kilometres and 65 pillars. The barrier is often called the eighth wonder of the world.

    Sluis by motorcycle

The town of Sluis is located in Zeeuws Vlaanderen, near the Belgian border. Between the historic city walls lies a lively centre with all kinds of cosy restaurants and shops that are also open on Sundays.

    Yerseke by motorcycle

The harbour town of Yerseke is not only Zeeland's mussel capital during the annual mussel festivals. According to experts, you can eat delicious oysters and Oosterschelde lobster here, in addition to mussels. Yerseke also has a pleasant little beach where you can enjoy a swim at high tide.

    Motorcycle routes in Zeeland

South Holland is a great province for a motorcycle ride. You will be amazed at how green and water-rich this province is, while historic cities such as The Hague, Leiden and the impressive port city of Rotterdam are all worth a detour. Our three favourite routes:

    1. Zeeland dikes and locks

This route of over 200 kilometres starts and ends in Westkapelle on the island of Walcheren in the province of Zeeland. Via the seaside resort of Domburg you head north to Brouwershaven via the Oosterscheldekering storm surge barrier. Be sure to visit Waterland Neeltje Jans along the way, where you can learn everything about the Delta Works. A beautiful route over Schouwen Duiveland takes you eastwards. Via Zierikzee and Philipsland, you drive south again to return to Walcheren, west of Bergen. You drive along beautiful dyke roads through the interior of Walcheren back to Westkapelle.

    2. Discover Zeeuws Vlaanderen

Zeeuws Vlaanderen is the southernmost part of the province of Zeeland. It is an area full of atmosphere and conviviality. Typical of the landscape in Zeeuws Vlaanderen are the dykes with their tall trees, the hidden creeks, the endless country roads with old pollard willows, the Spanish forts and the fortifications. The proximity of Belgium means that you can eat out here to your heart's content. With the cycle junction system and the many routes provided by the tourist office, you can discover the region at your own pace, in your own way. Want to know more about the picturesque spots?
