Dirt bike race in Lichtenvoorde

The Zwarte Cross (black cross) in Lichtenvoorde in the province of Gelderland was first organised in 1997. It was a motocross competition that anyone could participate in. Nowadays, the Zwarte Cross is the largest motorcycle event and the largest music festival in the Netherlands. More than 200,000 visitors celebrate life here for three days in July. Not to be missed by motorcycle and music lovers from all over the country!

Motorcycle routes in Gelderland

Gelderland is a great province for a motorcycle ride. The province is centrally located in the Netherlands, so you can ride to the province from almost anywhere in the country for a day of motorcycling. Gelderland means space and lots of nature. The Gelderland Ridge National Park covers a large part of the province. We have listed a number of beautiful routes through the smallest province of our country. Our three favourite routes

1. North Veluwe route

The North Veluwe route introduces you to the north of the Veluwe. In this beautiful area you will find a variety of forests, heaths and sand drifts. The route has been mapped out by the ANWB and is recognisable by the brown, hexagonal signs. There are plenty of reasons to get off your motorcycle along the way. Besides the nature, there are other good reasons to get off your bike, such as the gardens of Het Loo Palace, Apenheul Primate Park or Cannenburch Castle near Vaassen. Be sure to stop in the historic town of Elburg.

2. Heart of the Veluwe route

This route starts in the centre of the Veluwe, in Ede. You will get to know the most beautiful parts of the Veluwe via Wekerom, Kootwijk and Vierhouten, among other places. This route is characterised by its beautiful, small and often winding roads. The end of the route is in Hoenderloo.

3. Western Veluwe

This route takes you on a motorcycle from the Randmeren lakes to Amersfoort. You start in the medieval fortified town of Elburg and take a small loop via Kampen, Flevoland and Oldebroek to return to the Veluwe. Via Ermelo, the greenest town in the Netherlands, you arrive at your final destination, Amersfoort.

Buds in Nieuw Millingen

Napoleon had the road from Amersfoort to Apeldoorn constructed to improve access to Paleis ‘t Loo. A number of toll houses were built, including toll house no. 11. Buds restaurant is now located here, with a lovely, partially covered terrace.
