    Rotterdam harbour on a motorcycle

The mix of industry and nature make the port and surrounding area of Rotterdam a unique area. Nowhere else in the Netherlands is there so much activity concentrated in one place. Of course there are the impressive ships and huge cranes. You will also be surprised at how much beautiful nature there is around Rotterdam. Look at the motorcycle routes for a nice route proposal.

    Kinderdijk on a motorcycle

Whoever thinks of the Netherlands, thinks of windmills. In the water-rich area around Dordrecht you will find the nineteen windmills of Kinderdijk. They were built around 1740 and are a symbol of Dutch water management. The windmills at Kinderdijk have been declared UNESCO world heritage. Two windmills have been converted into museums and can be visited.

    Noordwijk on your motorcycle

In the middle of the Bulb Region on the Dutch coast lies the most chic seaside resort in the Netherlands: Noordwijk. In spring, Noordwijk is dominated by the colourful bulb fields, the annual Flower Parade and the world-famous Keukenhof. Noordwijk itself has a thirteen-kilometre-long, clean beach and a large number of delightful beach pavilions where you can rest during your motorbike trip.

    Motorcycle routes in South Holland

South Holland is a great province for a motorcycle ride. You will be amazed at how green and water-rich this province is, while historic cities such as The Hague, Leiden and the impressive port city of Rotterdam are all worth a detour. Our three favourite routes:

    1. Around Rotterdam

The area around Rotterdam offers a wonderful contrast between the bustle of the ports and the tranquillity of the polders. This route starts in Zoetermeer and via Gouda and Dordrecht you will arrive in the Rotterdam port area. Via Delft you will return to Zoetermeer after about 170 kilometres.

    You can download it here.

    2. Criss-crossing South Holland

This route of more than 170 kilometres begins at the Delta hotel in Vlaardingen. Cross the Erasmus Bridge into the centre of Rotterdam and then drive through the polders between the Maas and Oude Maas rivers, past the windmills of Kinderdijk. At Vianen you briefly take the A2 motorway, after which you can enjoy the winding roads along the Lek river. The end point is at the Amstel river in ‘t Jagershuis.

    3. Green Heart Route

If you are a fan of meadows, open water and historic villages along our major rivers, then this is the ideal route for you. This area is very green and is known as the green heart or the garden of the Randstad for good reason. You start in Woerden and via Oudewater, Gorinchem and the ferry at Schoonhoven, among other places, you end up in Amsterdam Zuidoost (yes, that is in North Holland!).

Enjoying a terrace in South Holland on your motorcycle

What could be better at the end of a day on your motorcycle than to relax on a terrace, enjoy a drink, watch the world go by and have a chat? Terraces are important for motorcyclists. Here is a list of our favourite terraces in South Holland
